GRASS believes strongly in developing appropriate technologies keeping in view the needs and priorities of the common people so that the benefit of that particular technology percolates down to the most poor and backward people living in the hills.

The Participatory Research (PR) is the slogan on which GRASS volunteers work along with the villagers. The villagers enrich the scientists with their native traditional wisdom while the volunteers get the necessary feedback for incorporating the necessary changes.

This on one hand makes the improvement/ innovation appropriate/ acceptable to the local community on the other it turns a common villagers in to "bare foot scientist ''putting lot of faith in his/her capabilities which are very often neglected.
