Objectives

The foremost objective of GRASS is to develop an eco-friendly society in the Himalayan region which realizes its responsibility on the deteriorating health of the Himalayas. This could only be done by raising the living standard of the common villagers, and making them active partners in the decentralized sustainable development process.
 
To achieve this, GRASS has the following priority areas of action :

 
To identify and analyze the problems of villagers of Himalayan region and suggest feasible solutions, providing alternatives,  option/trade off whichever possible.
To help the poor class, widow women, divorced women and handicapped is the group target.
To develop/improve the technologies for existing activities of the rural areas.
To intervene through Science & Technology to find options and to increase the efficiency of harvesting of natural resources.
To explore potentiality for development of natural resources not exploited conventionally, for sustained availability.
To develop network for exchange of ideas with other voluntary groups and institutions.
To organize local means for community services and prevent dependence on outside resources.
To arrange training of individual/group for rural and appropriate technologies developed, or identified by GRASS to develop scientific skill related to proper use of land/water and biomass resources.
To mobilize Participatory Research to increase community access in technical innovation.
To equip villagers with the knowledge of full use of their labor, skill and resources.
