Agriculture
GRASS
takes up agriculture as most important
activity as scattered and small land
holding is the only source of
livelihood. Economical cropping
(traditional) and their value addition
have been the major innervations. GRASS
provide the training and knowledge of
Bio-Agriculture.
GRASS has
been involved in a big way to create
awareness amongst the hill farmers about
the appropriate cropping patterns
keeping in view the climatic conditions
suitable for a particular region. A
program has also been initiated to
encourage the hill farmers to grow
off-season vegetables which has a very
good markets in the bigger cities.
To
ward off the wild animals which spoils
50 to 90 per cent of the crops, GRASS
has started a program to educate the
farmers in the hills about wild animal
resistant crops and also have
bio-fencing and other measures like
stone walls and barbed fencing. Improved
varieties of seeds have also been
introduced in selected areas for better
production.
The
farmers are also told on the upkeep of
better milching animals to enhance the
productivity and lessen the load of
grazing in the forests.
